Each type of dishwasher uses a different hydraulic pump system, leading to different electricity consumption and cleaning efficiency. Typically, the hydraulic pump uses an average of about 150W – 180W per hour, equivalent to 1 energy-saving incandescent bulb.

2. Heating element for water

The heating element has the following tasks:
  • Holds the dishes that need cleaning
  • Heats the water from the hydraulic pump to clean the dishes more easily and thoroughly
  • Creates steam to dry the dishes after cleaning
Thus, this component only consumes electricity for heating water and drying dishes. Both processes consume very little electricity.

To make it easier to understand, you can imagine this. I wonder if any of you here have ever bathed in the old style using a scoop of water? Using this method to bathe and rinse is quite quick. But in reality, it consumes a lot of water because you have to scoop a lot of water to wet and rinse your body. I misunderstood because I did not fully understand the mechanism and operation of the dishwasher. We still follow the conventional thinking like using an induction stove or a fan. The longer you use an induction stove or run a fan, the more electricity it consumes. That is natural :).

However, dishwashers have both similarities and differences. The similarity is: dishwashers do consume electricity and water :D. Of course, using an electric device for washing dishes will consume electricity and water. But the difference here is that longer time does not necessarily mean that the amount of water consumed increases exponentially. Because water is reused in the dishwasher, not continuously lost over the hours the dishwasher operates.

Why does a dishwasher use less water than washing dishes by hand?

After washing, the machine detects the turbidity of the water to measure the amount of food and dirt stuck on the dishes. If the water is still cloudy, the machine adds a little more water, washes a bit more, and then tests again, gradually increasing the water amount until the water is clear.

In my experience, the Eco mode is as effective as the other modes. You can save even more by switching to the ‘half load’ option, which also works well. The short load ’30 Min’ even saves more, but it is only suitable for very light loads (and needs to be dried by hand).

Another important result is that temperature is more important than the execution time. Generally, the higher the temperature setting, the higher the energy usage. You can use this result as a preliminary guide to choose a more efficient option on your dishwasher.
